Sadly the store is not open fore sale currently, but it will be an interesting one to watch!?

Not withstanding how "special" these specials are, on the basis at least two out of the three, if not all have been previously released at previous shows - the "special" nature is linked to the short production run leading to limited availability after the show days. Needless to say, these are all part of the cool Area-88 Series, that overall has not seem a full reissue for some years (BAe/Blackburn Buccaneer anyone!?) At least any additional decals are proper Cartograf decals!

TheHistory

At the time Rheinmetall was developing theFlak 41, the Krupp's company was also competingfor production orders with their 8.8 cm Gerät 42 proposal. The Krupps design wasnot accepted for production as an anti-aircraft gun, however developmentcontinued and resulted in the dreaded 8.8 cm PaK 43 anti-tank gun and 8.8 cmKwK 43 tank guns.

Pak43 (abbreviation of Panzerabwehrkanone 43) used a new single axle mount withthe gun much closer to the ground, making it far easier to hide and also harderto hit. It was had a much stronger and more angled armour shield to providebetter protection for gunners.

All versions this design were able topenetrate about 200 mm of armour at 1,000m, allowing it to defeat the armourof any contemporary tank.

The standard armament of the Tiger II, theKwK 43 tank gun, was essentially the PaK 43 externally modified to fit into aturret.

This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 5cm Flak 41 fitted for mid range anti air defense for armour columns. The vehicle had folding anchoring stands to absorb the recoil of the gun. The gun design was not a particular success because of slow transverse speed, and a heavy but not too powerful cartridge. It was to be replaced by the 5.5cm Flaks in development.
This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. Optional anchoring stands allow the model to be assembled in "Up" traveling mode or "Down" deploy mode. The 5cm Flak can be transversed and elevated.

This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 3.7cm Flak 41 fitted for close range anti air defense for armour columns. The vehicle had folding anchoring stands to absorb the recoil of the gun. The gun was an improvement over the 2cm Flak 38, providing better defense against better armoured airplanes.
This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. Optional anchoring stands allow the model to be assembled in "Up" traveling mode or "Down" deploy mode. The 3.7cm Flak can be transversed and elevated.The 3.7cm Flak and its mounting sled can be detached and deployed elsewhere if the customer desires, such on other vehicles such as sWS.

This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 2cm Flak Flakvierling 38 fitted for close range anti air defense for armour columns. Side panel of the truck were folded down during anti air operations. Each of the 2cm Flak had a rate of fire of 220 RPM.

This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. The side panels can be folded down so that the model can be operated in travel mode or deploy mode as the real vehicle. The 2cm Flakvierling can be transversed and elevated.The 2cm Flakverling and its mounting sled can be detached and deployed elsewhere if the customer desires, such as for fixed ground deployment.

The T-44 was designed as a successor to the T-34 tank series. Development began in 1943 and production started in 1945. Fewer than 2000 vehicles were produced.

The T-44/85 carries the same gun as the T34/85 but with a bigger turret derived from the T34/85 turret.

The T-44/100 carried a 100mm gun to counter heavy armoured German heavy tanks. It had a bigger turret derived from the T34/85 turret. This version only reached prototype staged. A new turret was designed for better performance and the new design eventually entered service as T-54,

The development of the T-44 contributed to the development of its successor T-54, which was one of the most produced tank in history.

Another of CGD more esoteric productions, a captured beutepanzer T34/85(r) rearmed with 88mm Gun.
The Germans captured very few T34/85 tanks and even fewer was put into service. However, from unconfirmed sources, Panzerbrigade Kurland, in Kurland, had only captured tanks. They took a captured T34/85 to a shipyard and rearmed to fire 88mm shells. They might have rebored the 85mm gun barrel to take 88mm shells (not quite probable) or took the 88mm gun form a damaged Tiger I and fit it into the turret. Supposedly the turret storage box from the Tiger was also fitted onto the T34, with some other custom additions.

As highlighted to you last November (see KG144 here) Miniwings latest release is iconic Canadian Icon.

In the 1950s Canada needed an all-weather interceptor (fighter) able to patrol the vast areas of Canada's north and operate in all weather conditions. The two-seat fighter crewed by a pilot and navigator, was designed with two powerful engines and an advanced radar and fire control system housed in its nose that enabled it to fly in all-weather or night conditions.

The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck (affectionately known as the "Clunk") was a Canadian jet interceptor/fighter serving during the Cold War both in NATO bases in Europe and as part of NORAD. The CF-100 was the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production, serving primarily with the RCAF/CAF and in small numbers in Belgium (whose requirements surely couldn't have been further from the Canadians?) . For its day, the CF-100 featured a short takeoff run and high climb rate, making it well suited to its role as an interceptor.The first production version, designated Mk 3, incorporated the APG-33 radar and was armed with eight .50 calibre (12.7 mm) machine guns.

The kit conforms to the Miniwing signature format and feel being cleanly cast and no obvious air bubbles. The panel lines on wing surfaces are very finely cast and provide a good balance between finesse and detailing, the fuselage lines are a little more defined. With a little care it should provide a good looking kit especially sat alongside the Miniwing CF-101 "Voodoo" (as seen built (Jaeckel))

The main kits comprise of 24 resin components, a styrene rod to be cut for struts and the new style crystal clear resin canopy.Assembly and painting instructions are also included.

Another interesting point, I was sat there thinking this is a large aircraft so I compared it to the Ju-88 sat on my desk and it positively dwarfs the WWII bomber!

This first batch is is an interesting set of kits as they appear currently to be exclusively used by the UAE (as the USA chose the F-15SE instead), furthermore according to press reports quoted by Flight International, this is "the first time the US has sold a better aircraft [F-16] overseas than its own forces fly"

I suspect there could be further variants of this kit produced, certainly by offering different variants and decal options to then the sales of this kit would be greater .

Despite its advancing age, the U-2 “Dragon Lady” continues to fly high-altitude all-weather reconnaissance missions for the US Air Force (USAF) even today. Built by Lockheed, the U-2 is powered by a single engine, and its high-aspect-ratio wings and light construction resemble that of a glider. While its particular platform is required by the high altitudes at which the aircraft flies, this also makes it very difficult to operate. Indeed, the U-2 has to be flown at near maximum speed to avert stalling. Landing is a particularly hazardous undertaking as it uses bicycle-type landing gear and titanium skids on its wingtips. It can fly at altitudes of 21,000m, requiring the pilot to wear the equivalent of a spacesuit.

The U-2R (initially known as the TR-1A) is a modified U-2C featuring larger under-wing “superpods” and increased fuel capacity. The type first flew in 1967, and the final example was delivered to the USAF in October 1989. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney J75 turbojet engine, and a total of twelve U-2R Dragon Ladies were built. Various surveillance and intelligence-gathering sensors are carried onboard.

This specific variant of the Dragon Lady is the subject of Warbirds’ new 1/144 scale die-cast model. It’s exciting as it’s a brand new design made from completely new toolings. Strategist have just announced their most impressive product to-date, a assembled and painted M25 Dragon wagon. It has excellent detailing and fantastic array of articulated parts, in fact the more you look at the level of detailing and the parts which can be repositioned the more impressive this item becomes. Clearly, $60 is not loose change. I do think it is value for what you are getting, as it is actually cheaper than the Matuo Kasten Dragon Wagon resin kit which you still have to build and paint. It is good to see that Strategist is still producing some interesting designs with a level of detail that is exceptionally fine for this scale.

This aircraft was designed to replace the old Turboprop aircraft in service with the Swedish airforce (Flygvapnet). Swedish Air Force requirements for the P1150 were demanding: the aircraft had to be able to attack anywhere along Sweden's 1,245 miles (2000 km) of coastline within one hour of launch from a central location. It had to be capable of being launched in any weather, day or night. Special attention was to be paid to integrating the electronics and weapons systems to create the equivalent of today's weapons systems approach to combat aircraft design. The aircraft was to be armed with four 20 mm cannons, rockets, bombs and/or a new anti-ship missile being developed, the Rb 04. The design team created a sleek airframe with clean lines powered by a license-built Rolls-Royce Avon Series 100

These filters were originally installed on the British CH-47 HC.2 variant operating in Iraq and Afghanistan, but can now also be found on other countries operating in that region.

I have been a bit snowed under of late, so I have been behind in capturing images of the kits stacking up on the desk.

This post is concerning the new release from Ozmods of the North American F-86D Sabre (Sabredog) which is interesting as it transpires it shares as little as 25% of the parts of with the original Sabre.

I must confess further, I need a new camera and or better lighting (England in the Winter doesn't get you much in the way of quality light) and my camera struggles to pic up the fine detail on very light backgrounds.

This is problematic as the panel lines on this kit are much finer and less trench like than on other plastic kits of gashapons in this scale. I think that Oz-mods should be congratulated on the finesse achieved, so go steady on the layering of the paint.

The plastic is a new formula used for the first time on this kit by OzMods and it should lend itself to easier a handling and building experience. Greg clearly would be interested in your feedback on this material.

The kit contains approximately 28 injected parts and a clear injected canopy (a separate vac-formed canopy will be available at an additional cost). Decals are supplied for USAF and Yugoslavian schemes and are ALPS printed By Starfighter Decals (according to MBittner the Yugo nose should be blue). This aircraft type was used by wide range of countries, so there is scope for a variety of other schemes.

A very nice kit for those wishing to model the fighters of the 1950 USAF or 1970 Yugoslavia!

Soviet Weaponry is often the poor relation in terms of 1/144, not only in aircraft but also armour. Even more so when presenting some of the more exotic or late planing items. The item presented here is more than just a paper panzer and was scheduled to enter full production, in which case it would been a tank killer with the job of hunting down those late ware German projects....

SU-101 / SU-192 - was an experimental vehicle designed by Uralmash design office in autumn 1944 to spring 1945 to replace the SU-100. Based on the T-44, it was special designed to deal with the ever increasing length of guns on vehicles to counter thick German armour, which make tank destroyers and self-propelled guns difficult to maneuver in cities. The tank had engine mounted sideways and in front, significantly shortened the overall length of the vehicle, which also provided additional protections for the crews.

The crew compartment was also had more room for additional ammunition. The SU-101 carried an 100-mm D-10 tank gun. The SU-102 carried an 122-mm D-25-44S tank gun. The crew compartment has less room compared to the SU-101 because of the bigger gun and ammunition. Although successfully passed factory tests with high performances, it was not mass produced as WWII came to an end. A surviving vehicle was displayed in Kubinka Armor Museum, Russia.

Flakpanzer T-34(r) - or 2cm Flakvierling auf Fahrgestell T-34(r), was an interesting vehicle modified form Captured T-34 tank by the Germans. It was a field modification by Werkstattkompanie 653 using armor plates from damaged half-tracks. This vehicle provided anti air cover for the headquarter of schwere Heeres Panzerjaeger Abteilung 653 in early 1944.

As part of the Warbirds collection, Dragon has produced a 1/144 scale model of the X-29. This item makes use of 100% new toolings, and it accurately reproduces the sleek shape of the experimental aircraft.

It is a shame that his is a prebuilt model and not a kit as per the recent X-1 and X-3, although the X-1 has been issued in both kit and built formats so there is a possibility.

As part of the USA’s experimental flight program, the X-29 first took to the air from Edwards Air Force Base on 14 December 1984. A total of two aircraft, based on Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter airframes, were produced and they flew in various tests up till 1991. The Grumman X-29’s key characteristics were forward-swept wings (at more than 33° angle), canard control surfaces and composite materials. The design was inherently unstable to increase its agility, so it utilized computerized fly-by-wire controls that could make 40 corrections per second while flying at a maximum speed of Mach 1.8.

Alhthough up for 11 Euro which roughly eqautes to 1165 Yen / 15 USD / 14 AUD / 10 GBP so dont expect to fine a product,
It does for obvious reasons have to be one of the largest collection of Italian aircraft out there?

It does have a mixed range of scales aking to a "fix the box" range, incorporating 1/72, 1/100 1/144 and 1/200? So be careful on the items that you buy

The next KG144 release is an item subject to many a debate and conflicting texts on the Internet, in part due to a number of companies being commissioned to produce designs, and also evolving those designs.

This configuration is based on various sources, and reflects closely the original brief issued to the Germand and Czech manufacturers for a pure munitions schlepper. It is presented here with a PaK 43 cannon.

In January 1943 the lesser known company “Weserhutte” was asked to design an armoured ammunition carrier (VK 501) for the Werhmacht. It was planned that mass production should start in 1944, however conflicting demand for resources on the German industrial war machine caused this to be delayed.

Designed to have a weigh 6 tons, it utilised the proven 6-Cylinder Maybach HL42 providing 100HP and a speed of 65 Kilometres per hour, transverse mounted. The armour thickness was specified at 20 millimetres, and was capable of stopping a 7.62 round.

The payload capacity was 1,000 kilograms providing a range of options:

- 10 Boxes (1500 rounds) of 7.62mm Ammunition

- 32 Boxes (96 rounds) of 8cm Mortar Rounds

- 15 boxes (45 Rounds) of 7.5cm s.IG Ammunitions

- 22 Rounds of 15cm s.IG Ammunition

Production was approved late 1943 for: 6000 vehicles for the infantry, and 2000 for the artillery.

PAK-43 (Panzerabwehrkanone 43)

At the time Rheinmetall was developing the Flak 41, the Krupp's company was also competing for production orders with their 8.8 cm Gerät 42 proposal. The Krupps design was not accepted for production as an anti-aircraft gun, however development continued and resulted in the dreaded 8.8 cm PaK 43 anti-tank gun and 8.8 cm KwK 43 tank guns.

Pak 43 (abbreviation of Panzerabwehrkanone 43) used a new single axle mount with the gun much closer to the ground, making it far easier to hide and also harder to hit. It was had a much stronger and more angled armour shield to provide better protection for gunners.

All versions this design were able to penetrate about 200 mm of armour at 1,000 m, allowing it to defeat the armour of any contemporary tank.

The standard armament of the Tiger II, the KwK 43 tank gun, was essentially the PaK 43 externally modified to fit into a turret.

- Max Speed reduced to 30 KPH
- Payload was increased to 2,000 kg

This version of the vehicle could therefore carry increased loads and was also suited to acting as a light armoured personnel carrier for the transport of up to 6 soldiers, and is also able to retrieve stretcher based casualties.

Self-defence was provided by the MG-42 machine gun(s).

Fact or Fiction?

While this does verge on being a paper project at least one vehicle was found out “in the wild”, and became the subject of a British Army Intelligence Report submitted on 19th May 1945.

The recently HobbyMaster Ju-52 has been well received due to its excellent detailing and reasonable pricing, although strangely to-date no military editions have been released. So it was strange to see on the Hobby Master Collector site a new B-24D combat release. Although B-24s have been available in many q/q44 plastic kit formats before, I think this is the first to be subject to this level of quality. It will be interesting to see if more are forthcoming, there are plenty of schemes to choose from!?

This E75 is modelled after the BergePanther, one of the best recovery vehicle, using the chassis of E75 standard tank. At the heart of the vehicle was a 40 ton winch of the BergePanther. On its own the vehicle could provide a 40 ton force to pull out bogged down medium tanks.

But using a simple block & tackle pulley system, the extraction force could be doubled to 80 ton, enough to pull out disabled heavy tanks. The first pulley of the block and tackle system was cleverly incorporated into the winch mechanism. Operator only required to attach a single pulley looping back the cable to the anchoring spade to complete the system.

Following the lesson learnt form the failed landing attempt at Dieppe, and in preparation for the major landing operation in Normandy, British standard Churcill tank was specially modified into the AVRE (Assault Vehicle, Royal Engineers).

The main gun was replaced by a 290mm muzzle loading mortar specially for clearing concrete obstacles. It fired a 40lb. spigot high explosive shell nicknamed the Flying Dustbin. The vehicle was also fitted with standard attachment points so that it could be modified into other special purpose vehicles such as the Churchill Bobbin and Fascine.

This tank formed the back bone of "Hobart's Funnies" which took part in the Normandy landing in 1944.

Design to oppose the growing threat from the increasingly large German "mega" tanks, and to smash 'Fortress Europe' the allies developed new series of there own 'mega tanks' to counter the perceived German Threat. The British developed the A-39 Tortoise, and the Americans the T28 and atroughly the size of 4x Shermans this would have been quite a beast!

Initially designated as 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95, it was renamed as Super Heavy Tank T28 in 1946.2 prototypes were built before the program terminated in 1947. The sole surviving prototype was not discovered until 1974 and is now exhibited in the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor.

The 1/144 world has been waiting for a Su-24 for some time, and then two arrive at once ! However, the Tripplenuts Su24 kit will much more difficult to obtain without a ticket to Tokyo.

The kit conforms to the Miniwing signature format and feel being cleanly cast and with well defined panel lines, although a little care will be required joining the fuselage halves.

The main kits comprise of 36 resin components and the new style crystal clear resin canopy, also on this kit there is a fret of 12 Photo Etched parts for added detailing.Assembly and painting instructions are also included. The 'Variable Geometry' wings are not articulated, so it would probable best to establish the angle you wish to display and fix them at the degrees required.

Decals are provided by Y-Kraft of Japan, for the following options:

- Su-24,Soviet Air Force 149th GvBAP

- Su-24,Soviet Air Force in Afghanistan 1984

38D - (Source: Panzer Tracts no. 20-2) In October 1944 German Panzerkommission decided to standardize future Panzer production to use only 3 types of chassis, the 38 (t), Panther and Tiger. Unfortunately the 38 (t) chassis was poorly suited for production by German industries and supply seriously fell short of the demand. A new leichter (light) chassis was redesigned for German production based on the 38 (t). The new chassis would be wider and mounting a new 220 hp Tatra diesel engine. The new chassis was named as 38 D, also known as Pz. 38 “Reich”.

Vehicles planned to utilize the chassis included:
1. Aufklaerer 38D mit 2cm im Drehturm (Reconnaissance vehicle with 20mm gun in turret);
2. Aufklaerer 38D mit 7.5cm L/48 ( (Reconnaissance vehicle with 75mmL/48 gun);
3. Panzerfahrzeug mit Granatwerfer (Armoured vehicle with 12cm mortar);

The Aufklaerer 38D had a longer hull and track contact length. With a different gear ratio gear box, the Aufklaerer 38D was a faster vehicle than the regular 38 D although the engine remained the same

As these appear early days protoype sprues, it is not clear how much assembly you will need to do.
It can be seen in the photos that as per the description that these are indeed prepainted.

Although the photos on Hobby Search show the same weapons sprues, the text would seem indicate that the waepons packs should be as per the original kits.

The Sd. Kfz. 247 Ausf. A was a six-wheeled armoured car build by Krupp using the 6 X 4 chassis of Krupp Protze truck. Thinly armoured and open-topped, it was used as a command car for motorcycle divisions. Strangely they were not fitted with radios. It's cross-country capability was only as good as the Protze. Only 10 Sd. Kfz. 247 Ausf. A where built before the war started, and were superseded by the 4-wheeled Ausf. B version built by Daimler-Benz.

German Armored Car Polizei-Panzerkampfwagen ADGZ
ADGZ was designed by Austro-Daimler Puchwerke AG, which in 1934 was taken over by Steyr. Production began in 1934 and continued until late 1937, while first ADGZ cars began entering service with Bundesheer in 1935. The original cars were pressed into service with Police detachments and SS units (e.g. SS Danziger Heimwehr) including those storming the Post Office in Danzig (Gdansk) in September of 1939. In 1941, Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler ordered Steyr to produce additional 25 ADGZ armored cars for the use by SS. They were delivered in 1942 and entered service with SS units in the East and the Balkans (e.g. 7th SS Freiwillingen-Gebirgs-Division "Prinz Eugen") fighting the partisans.

A high speed photo reconnaissance drone developed in the early 1960s, originally intended to be launched from the M-21 which was a converted A-12 (a SR-71 kit will have to make do!), it was later configered to work from the B-52 (which carried one under each wing on pylons). The programme was cancelled after a small number of flights over China!

The Krupp-Protze L2H143 kfz61 was a widely used 6 wheeled truck and artillery tractor in WWII. Most commonly for towing the Pak 36. In various configurations, about 7000 units were built.

Frequently instead of towing the Pak 36, crews put the whole Pak unit on top of the truck turning the vehicle into a self-propelled gun, or as in this model, permanently mounted on the vehicle without the carriage.

The SS-100 was based upon the civilian SS-100 'Gigant' agricultural heavy tractor , for military purposes it was fitted with a larger 4 door cab and a winch was also added to the rear. Around 700 of this type were produced between 1941 and 1945.

Perhaps more widely known for its use by the Wehrmacht in pulling the 'Vidalwagon' & 'Meillerwagen' used to transport V-2 rockets or T-Stoff & B-Stoff fuel trailers. It was however more widely used the Luftwaffe on airfields for pulling larger bombers or the me-323, bomb loads and again fuel trailers such as a the B-Stoff Bowers for the Me-163 Fighter programme.

After the war the SS-100s served on as heaver movers by German 'fairground' companies.

The product characteristics of HANOMAG SS-100 by Strategist:

Fujimi appears to be planning to release a G10N 'Fugaku' kit, interestingly its "No.1" indicating there could be other bombers in this series.

Its not clear if its resin or plastic injection, if plastic it should be cheaper than the Anigrand and somewhat easier to assemble...

How big is big?
Its slightly smaller than a Boeing B-36, so if your estimating the display space requirements its 35x41cm)

The price on the image obviously indicates 3,000 Yen (inc HLJ, so its probably the corret price), although various Japanese retailers have it pegged between 9,000 to 12,000 Yen - so, it's not very clear.

Hobby Search has 4x Different models (possible decal and paint options?) and a combo pack....
