1/144 'Tiburon' Spanish midget submarine - Mikr-Mir

1/144 'Tiburon' Spanish midget submarine - Mikr-Mir

With a crew of five men, Tiburon-class submarines were intended to carry out week-long missions, would be ideal for operating in shallow waters and in command operations. They were equipped with a greater accommodation than the preceding Foca class, with a bathroom and two bunk beds, which allowed the crew to rest in "hot bed" shifts.

The design was based upon the German minisubmarine Hai-class. The submarines had two diesel engines (115 HP) and two electric engines (110 HP). The armament was two torpedoes. The sail was larger than the previous class which helps in the surveillance tasks.

The Tiburón-class had only two units, SA-51 and SA-52, but despite being better than the previous class, never got to join the navy. The submarines were in the Naval Week of Barcelona in 1966, one of them, SA-52, arrive from Cartagena on her own.[1]

In May 9, 1986, the SA-51 submarine was donated to the La Caixa Fundation for its Science museum, now called "CosmoCaixa". The submarine is on display in front of the museum entrance.

The SA-52 remains on display at the Isaac Peral Naval Base in Cartagena.

- Anti-submarine patrol boat (Measure 13).
- D-Day, 6th June 1944 at Normandy (Measure 14).

Anti-submarine version / D-Day 6th June 1944

About D-Day 83-footers :
The sixty 83' Patrol Cutters that formed Rescue Flotilla One during D-Day were modified to some extend to fill their role of rescue ships during the landings.
Mousetrap rails, D/C launchers and some ammo boxes were removed, while in some instances more balsa rafts were secured on railings or pilot house.

Camouflage was changed to the darker Measure 14, and pennant numbers replaced by codes from 1 to 60.

CGC-6 is famous for her skull and crossbones emblems on both sides of the pilot house.
The instructions and paint guide are based on some examples. It is recommended that modeller should do some research to model a specific cutter.

The LTV A-7 Corsair II is an American carrier-capable subsonic light attack aircraft manufactured by Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) to replace the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. Its airframe design is a somewhat smaller version of the supersonic Vought F-8 Crusader. The Corsair II initially entered service with the United States Navy (USN) during the Vietnam War. It was later adopted by the United States Air Force (USAF), including the Air National Guard, to replace the Douglas A-1 Skyraider and North American F-100 Super Sabre. The aircraft was also exported to Greece in the 1970s, and to Portugal in the late 1980s.

While USAF A-7s stayed home in favor of A-10s, the USN deployed two of its last A-7E squadrons to Operation Desert Shield in August 1990 aboard USS John F. Kennedy, the only carrier of six deployed to Desert Storm to operate the A-7. The navy squadrons VA-46 and VA-72 made the last combat sorties of the A-7 in Operation Desert Storm flying from the Red Sea to targets throughout Iraq. The A-7 was used both day and night to attack a wide range of heavily defended deep interdiction targets in Iraq as well as "kill boxes" (geographically defined kill zones) in Kuwait, employing a variety of weapons including precision-guided munitions (PGMs), such as the TV-guided Walleye glide bomb, unguided general purpose bombs, and High Speed Anti-Radiation missiles (HARM).
