1/144 A30 Challenger Cruiser Tank - Panzer Depot

1/144 A30  Challenger Cruiser Tank - Panzer Depot
Hot of the press, this month release from Panzer Depot. The British and Commonwealth A30 Challenger Tank!

Mounted with the British 17 Pounder gun on the Cromwell chassis added heavier anti-tank firepower to the cruiser tank units. Design compromises made in fitting the large gun onto the Cromwell chassis gave a tank with a powerful weapon but with less armour. It was however able to keep up with the Cromwell  they shared the Rolls-Royce Meteor engine.

1/144 Flakpanzer IV Ostwind Turret for Conversion

1/144 Flakpanzer IV Ostwind Turret for Conversion
"Ostwind" - (East Wind) was developed as a successor to the "Wirbelwind" in an attempt to provide increased firepower against aircraft attacks for armour columns. A rapid firing 3.7cm Flak 43 was mounted in an open topped six sided turret nicked name "Keksdose" (Cookie Tin). The open topped design was adopted because of the heavy smoke generated by the gun during firing. The vehicle used the chassis of the "Work Horse" of the Wehrmacht, the Panzer IV. Because of the delay in production caused by Allies bombing facilities, only about 40+ vehicles were built.

Available in painted Panzergrau, Dunkelgelb and Unpainted. Turret Only!!

This set contains one turret. Panzer IV chassis NOT included. Gun can be elevated. The turret pivot is 2.5mm in diameter and come with a ring adapter to enlarge the pivot to 5.7mm diameter. Should fit tanks from other manufacturers too.

Depending on which Panzer IV chassis you used, the turret pivot and the adapter might need to be cut short for fitting. Compatible with WTM, Dragon or 21st CC Pz.IVs

Available direct form CGD e-shop:

1/144 8.8cm Flak auf Sonderfahrgestell - Matuo Kasten

1/144 8.8cm Flak auf Sonderfahrgestell - Matuo Kasten

its been a while since I posted an item coming out of the Matuo Kasten workshops, but here is an impressive item to add to your array of Whermacht Flak Panzers!

One of 3 prototypes based upon a heavily modified Pz.IV chassis to help counter the threat of Allied air power as early as 1942! However despite support for the Luftwaffe, the various issues and failings encountered in trails lead to the project was abandoned in 1944.

The kits is nicely details and doesnt contain to many onerous parts or micro detailing, so it should go together quite nicely.

The vehicle is featured in on the Achtung Panzer Grille Series page, and Panzer Tracts No. 12-1 - Flakpanzerkampfwagen IV and other Flakpanzer projects development and production from 1942 to 1945
It must be noted that Matuo Kasten has also the larger 17cm Grille on the web site and other Flak Panzers!

1/144 RAF WWII GSE - Matador range update !!
Matador have updated their resin range with some new Austin K6 lorries (trucks) to add to their existing range od Albion support vehicles, Additionally there is a new new RAF Type C Bomb Trolley that appears to come with the option of a 'cookie cutter' or 6 conventional bomb. I have some of the existing releases and they have great detail and nice clean sharp casts, although solid glazing. Still, I'll certainly be looking at these with some interest!

see  Matador Link 1  and  Link 2

144V-13 Commer Q2 2 Ton GS  (wooden body) £.???
144V-14 Dodge Kew 3 Ton GS (wooden body) £.???

Civilian N Gauge Range  (UK 1/148) - Link
CS-N-01 Scammell Haulage Contractor's (or Showman's) Prime  Mover £9.95
Although a the civil version, a little work could make for a passable Scammell R100 Military version?

Aircraft Interiors 1/144:
Although basic by the standard of today, Retrowings, Senworks etc these relatively cheap white metal interiors can help boost some of the older 1/144 kits lacking any real interior. This maybe particularly useful as revell are reissuing (for some unknown delusional reason) all those terrible kits on part with the crown/minicraft ranges of yesteryear!? Link

I feel a trip to Kent may be the order of the day!

An interesting modeller has appeared on Shapeways trading as Kuugun Koushou ("Airforce Arsenal"), whilst majoring in JSDF GSE items, there is also provision scope for some USAF and RAAF itesm. Euro dioramas could also be catered for due to the compatible nature of European and Japanese styling of light trucks.

1/144 Wonderfest 2012 Show Specials - Platz

1/144 Wonderfest 2012 Show Specials - Platz/F-Toys
Not withstanding how "special" these specials are, on the basis at least two out of the three, if not all have been previously released at previous shows - the "special" nature is linked to the short production run leading to limited availability after the show days. However keep an eye on ebay and som of the smaller sites and these may appear....

Needless to say, these are all part of the cool Area-88 Series, that overall has not seem a full reissue for some years (BAe/Blackburn Buccaneer anyone!?) At least any additional decals are proper Cartograf decals!

F-8 Crusader (1,000 Yen)
F-35J Saab Drakken (1,800 Yen)
A-4 Sky Hawk (1,000 Yen)
F-2A (1,800 Yen) - Warning, this may be the 2010 reissue!?

1/144 PAK-43 (Panzerabwehrkanone 43)
The History
At the time Rheinmetall was developing the Flak 41, the Krupp's company  was also competing for production orders with their 8.8 cm Gerät 42 proposal. The Krupps design was not accepted for production as an anti-aircraft gun, however development continued and resulted in the dreaded 8.8 cm PaK 43 anti-tank gun and 8.8 cm KwK 43 tank guns.
Pak 43 (abbreviation of Panzerabwehrkanone 43) used a new single axle mount with the gun much closer to the ground, making it far easier to hide and also harder to hit. It was had a much stronger and more angled armour shield to provide better protection for gunners.
All versions this design were able to penetrate about 200 mm of armour at 1,000m,  allowing it to defeat the armour of any contemporary tank.
The standard armament of the Tiger II, the KwK 43 tank gun, was essentially the PaK 43 externally modified to fit into a turret.
