1/144 Bristol Freighter MK 31 Ozmods

1/144 Bristol Freighter MK 31 - Ozmods
Injected plastic kit, with detailed flight deck, vac-form canopies, decals.

OMKIT14418 with SAFE Air (New Zealand) and British United decals.
OMKIT14419 with RNZAF and RAF decals.

The Bristol Type 170 was designed as a stop-gap project to provide work for the Bristol company while the Bristol Brabazon was under development. Subsequently, the Air Ministry expressed interest in the project, believing that it would provide a rugged transport aircraft capable of using unimproved airstrips, and two prototypes were ordered on the condition that the design was modified so that the aircraft could carry a British Army 3-ton truck, and Air Ministry specification 22/44 (later revised as C.9/45) was drawn up around the design.[1]

In military service, Bristol Freighters were operated by the air forces of Argentina, Australia, Burma, Canada, Iraq, Pakistan and New Zealand. Bristol Freighters were operated briefly by the Pakistan Air Force. After withdrawal, some of the Pakistan aircraft were bought by SAFE Air and used in New Zealand. The Royal Canadian Air Force used five Freighters to carry spares and supplies between the UK and their bases in France and West Germany.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force ordered 12 Mk 31M Freighters in the late 1940s. RNZAF Freighters ranged as far as supplying the New Zealand Army in Malaya, the British High Commissions (and other support staff) in the Maldives, Ceylon, India and Nepal, performing Far East Air Force tasks in Malaya (often when other aircraft types were unserviceable owing to maintenance problems) and Hong Kong. They ran a highly reliable military shuttle service for allies in Thailand during the Vietnam War and served several other roles, being adapted for—amongst other things—aerial top dressing experiments, although to avoid competition with private enterprise, the New Zealand government did not use them in that role.

1/144 C-2A 'Greyhound' Conversion - OzMods

1/144 C-2A 'Greyhound' Conversion - OzMods

Ok, its not the first (Y-Kraft), its not the most detailed and expensive (Foxone), but it is the best value and most practical. That right, OzMods have commissioned a new conversion for the Revell Hawkeye kit and will be available from their website soon for $17.60 AUD - use the contact details for ordering information.

The kit consist of two half shells of transparent clear injected plastic for the revised fuselage, which has various windows marked out finely, so you will need to practice your masking skills. It does however mean that the windows and fuselage are not separate pieces and that a nice smooth finish can be achieved around the glazed areas. you will be advised to choose your adhesive carefully as not to induce fogging. The injected tail plane and cargo doors are of a different plastic to the fuselage, and of course the ramp can be positioned as required. A simple a resin cockpit is supplied that would benefit from some additional self detailing. finally nose wheel well and assorted aerials also are included.

Decals are provided for USN VRC-30 and are strong and bold in colour and will finish the kit of nicely

1-144 NA F-86D Sabre - OzMods

1-144 North American F-86D Sabre - OzMods
I have been a bit snowed under of late, so I have been behind in capturing images of the kits stacking up on the desk.

This post is concerning the new release from Ozmods of the North American F-86D Sabre (Sabredog) which is interesting as it transpires it shares as little as 25% of the parts of with the original Sabre.

I must confess further, I need a new camera and or better lighting (England in the Winter doesn't get you much in the way of quality light) and my camera struggles to pic up the fine detail on very light backgrounds.

This is problematic as the panel lines on this kit are much finer and less trench like than on other plastic kits of gashapons in this scale. I think that Oz-mods should be congratulated on the finesse achieved, so go steady on the layering of the paint.

The plastic is a new formula used for the first time on this kit by OzMods and it should lend itself to easier a handling and building experience. Greg clearly would be interested in your feedback on this material.

The kit contains approximately 28 injected parts and a clear  injected canopy (a separate vac-formed canopy will be available at an additional cost). Decals are supplied for USAF and Yugoslavian schemes and are ALPS printed By Starfighter Decals (according to MBittner the Yugo nose should be blue). This aircraft type was used by wide range of countries, so there is scope for a variety of other schemes.

A very nice kit for those wishing to model the fighters of the 1950 USAF or 1970 Yugoslavia!

1/144 Missiles and Pilots - By OzMods

OzMods have been for a while been producing a range of interesting munitions options in 1/144, and it always surprises me when people complain that there are not enough of "Type X , or Type Y" munitions. It always strikes me that OzMods have options to suit most aircraft from WWII to the Modern times.

There are over 80x different items in their list from $1.50 !

The Allied & Russian Pilot sets come with 2x figures in each, the generic set has seated figures.

The weapons packs vary as to the number of munitions in each set but typically come in 2x or 4x packs.

For their size, I think the figures are well done, one primed and painted the detailing will leap out (I will include HD shots below), although the generic figures are a little blander. I don't this this should be a huge issues as are meant to be sat inside cockpits, the standing figures which are for showing externally to the aircraft in dioramas etc are therefore much more detailed.

The weapons are well formed and surprisingly detailed, these should again be more evident when painted and washes applied or lines filled.

As these are resin accessories, there is a little flash here and there that needs to be trimmed also you get the occasional dink or glitch.

1/144 B-57D & B-57G Conversion - Ozmods

OzMods have updated thier Martin B-57D Conversion pack to include decals, and have added a Martin B-57G upgrade set.

Of course if your thinking this looks a lot like the English Electric Canberra youd be correct!
The American licensed the Canberra and made some alterations for thier purposes.

OzMods also sell the "real" Canberra in a number of options and kits.
