12mm Kits from Victrix Games

12mm Kits from Victrix Games

Press Release from Victix Games:

We’re excited to announce the we have set up a new company called VICTRIX GAMES.

This is a subsidiary company of Victrix Limited and will be focused on bringing you fully functional gaming systems as well as high quality vehicles and figures to use in these games.

Our first launch is a 12mm World War II Gaming System. We have chosen 12mm as it allows gaming on a 1:1 scale for all vehicles and figures. By ensuring that 1 vehicle/figure represents 1 vehicle/figure in real, life, it gives the game a more authentic feel, with the attritional nature of war being ever present in the gamers' mind. 12mm allows for realistic scale actions even on a small 6ft by 4ft gaming table without the battle looking overcrowded and unrealistic. You decide how big or small you want the game to be. Our figures will also be compatible with most 10mm ranges.

This first theatre will be based on Normandy 1944. It includes separate British, German and American forces. The game is predominantly a tank and infantry-based system but will also include rules for ground attack aircraft. Other theatres currently being developed include North Africa and the Eastern Front.

The system is based around a set of core rules which is scheduled to be released in late 2020. However, for those already keen to get their hands on VICTRIX GAMES’ products, you’ll be glad to hear that in the meantime we will be releasing several vehicle and figure sets based on the Normandy 1944 theatre. You can expect these to be available in early 2020.

These are more curious as these do not form part of a former release, neither are they a reboxing of any other manufacturer that I am a ware off. So to-date would seem to be a bit of a departure for Revell.

1/144 WWII US M4 Sherman with 105mm Howitzer - CGD

1/144 WWII US M4 Sherman with 105mm Howitzer  - CGD
This new release in the CGD range of Sherman tanks varient has been inspired by the discussion on KG144BBS, and therefore should get a warm welcome.

Both the M4 and M4A3 Sherman were upgraded/factory equipped with a 105mm M4 howitzer. They fired a powerful high explosive charge and were used as assault guns platoons. However the gun performed poorly as anti tank weapon and was rarely deployed against enemy tanks. But a HEAT (High Explosive Anti-tank) ammunition was available for self defence. The 105mm Sherman was also the first to be equipped with a all vision commander copula.

Sherman tankers often improvised to "upgrade" their armour protection in the field and one way was stacking sandbags around the hull armour. They were useless against kinetic rounds but was thought to provide protection against German HEAT weapons such as Panzerfaust. This proofed to be more psychological than practical. Tests showed that such protection although can protect the Sherman from a frontal impact of Panzerfaust 60, a side attack of the weapon blew away the sandbags and still penetrated the armour.

1/144 US Sherman Calliope Rocket Launcher T34

1/144 US Sherman Calliope Rocket Launcher T34 - CGD

The Sherman tank was the most widely used Allies tank in WWII. A lot of variations and updates were performed on the vehicles and some special purpose vehicles were also produced.

The Sherman Calliope was a successful attempt to mount the T34 Calliope System on a Sherman tank. The system was a multiple rocket launch system with 60 X 107mm rocket launching tubes. The system utilized the Sherman turret rotation and gun elevation as means of operation. The Sherman Calliope was able to deliver massive indirect support fire. But the effect, like other similar systems such as Soviet Katyusha or German Nebelwerfer, are more psychological than physical. About 200 were made in 1944.
