1/144 German P-1000 Landkreuzer Ratte & Maus combo kit - by TAKOM
Price: $45.95
ETA Feb.

Not too much info on this one yet, Interesting though, I assume they are injected plastic for this price? Did i mention the price - doesn't seem too unreasonable (esp compared to the resin kits)!?

1/144 German Super Heavy Tank "Maus II" Ausf B Turret

1/144 German Super Heavy Tank  "Maus II" Ausf B Turret  - by CGD

CGD has two great announcements today, 1) the release of the MAUS II Panzer 46 model, and 2) the introduction of the ABS-L printing material.

"Maus" - The Super Heavy Tank "Maus" project began with a meeting between Hitler, Speer and Porsche in June 1942. Two prototypes were built but unconfirmed sources claimed that there might be five prototypes built before the war ended. The surviving exhibit in Kubinka Museum has the hull of the first prototype and turret form the second prototype.

Battle Ready Treatment - Since the Maus was still in prototype stage before the war ended, this model was designed with enhancements to reflect what the tank would look if it went into mass production.

As Hitler criticized the prototype Porsche turret mounting the 128mm gun as a toy, and insisted on a heavier 150mm or even 175mm gun, the turret was replaced with a Tiger II styled turret with Infa-rot device for the commander. This turret design eliminated the "shot trap" present in the Porsche Maus design.

A MG 34 was installed in hull front to be operated by the radio operator for close quarter defense. Spare tracks were strategically placed on the side next to the two internal fuel tanks as additional armour.

The 1000L fuel tank on the first prototype was intended for a flamethrower as secondary weapon insisted by the Wehrmacht. The request was cancelled soon afterward. A rack for jerry cans and tool boxes for maintenance were installed instead.

Available in 3 formats:
  • Fully painted in 3 Colour Disruptive Camouflage scheme. Weathered and no assembling required.(See Here )
  • Fully painted in Dunkelgelb scheme. Weathered and no assembling required. (See Here)
  • UNPAINTED and UNASSEMBLED. This model contains five parts: chassis, turret, gun and a pair of tracks.  (See here)  (for the painting guide (See here))

1. What is ABS-L?
ABS-L is an acrylic resin used for 3D printing. It is NOT brittle as regular acrylic material. It is strong and tough when properly structured, and flexible when thin. But it still will break if bended too much.

The material is printed in a resolution of approximately 250dpi, or 0.1mm thick layers, to give a smooth model with sharp details. Sometimes layering effect appears on sloped areas of the model which is a characteristic of 3D printing. This material can be cut, sand, filed easily. It accepts regular model paints readily and can be glued with instant glue/super glue/Cyanoacrylate glue.

2. How does the ABS-L material compare to the nylon material previously used?
ABS-L has a smoother surface after painting and the details are sharper than the nylon supplied by Shapeways printing process

3. Other benefits?
The new printing printing process and quality assurance is undertaken within CGD workshops and all items are checked repeatedly throughout the manufacturing process.

1/144 Jagdpanzer JgPz E-100 "Krokodil" - CGD

1/144 Jagdpanzer JgPz E-100 "Krokodil" - CGD

Available in Camouflaged, Dunkelgelb or unpainted.

This model has six parts: chassis (pre-assembled with tracks), gun (detached for shipping), two mid section track covers and two rear section track covers (which are removable).

Jagd Panzer E 100 "Krokodil" - In 1945, the German war machine initiated a development program (Entwicklung, or E) aimed at categorizing the development of AFVs in 5, 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 ton weight brackets.

The E 100 was the heaviest in the series and was developed at the same time as the Porsche Maus. Only the chassis of the prototype was discovered after the war which was evaluated by the British Army and then scrapped.

If the development of the E 100 had continued, a tank destroyer version that will probably carried a 170mm main gun on a fixed superstructure based on the E 100 chassis will follow.

1/144 Wehrmacht '46 German Panzer IV mit Schmalturm - CGD

1/144 Wehrmacht '46 German Panzer IV mit Schmalturm

This is a new 1:144 Wehrmacht '46 German Panzer IV mit Schmalturm 7.5cm L/70 (KwK 42) from the new Wargame Armour series of CGD. This vehicle is fully painted in 3 Colour disruptive Camouflaged scheme. Weathered and no assembling required.

The model features a rotating turret and two detachable Schurzen. Infrared devices are also built into the commander's hatch and driver's view port.

"Panzer IV mit Schmalturm 7.5cm L/70 (KwK 42)" - Panzer IV was the most widely manufactured and deployed German tank in WWII since late 1930s. Facing ever increasing thickness of enemy armour especially the Russians, Panzer IVs were up gunned form the short barrelled low velocity gun to the long barreled 7.5 cm Kwk 40 L/43 high velocity anti tank gun. In Late 1944 to early 1945, Schmallturm (Small Turret) initially developed for Panther Ausf F was also considered to be mounted onto the Panzer IV chassis with a 7.5cm L/70 (KwK 42) used by the original Panther. The war ended before the original Panther Ausf F/Schmallturm project could get pass the prototype stage. None of the Panzer IV mit Schmalturm was ever built.

1/144 E-50 'Krokodil' Jagdpanzer (Panzer '46) - by CGD

1/144 E-50 'Krokodil' Jagdpanzer (Panzer '46) - by CGD

Modelled after a speculative drawing showing a Jagdpanzer developed from the E50 chassis. The gun compartment is in the aft position of the chassis similar to Elefant.

This design has the advantage of reducing the overall length of the vehicle which is important as Germans tried to mount bigger and bigger guns onto vehicles. This also meant that the engine of the vehicle would have to be placed in the front or middle part of the vehicle.

But unlike the Elefant which had a relatively vertical front armour plate on the superstructure, the speculative drawing shows a slanting armour plate following the angle of the front chassis. This covers up almost half of the location of the engine and servicing such vehicle would be very difficult.
This model try to reduce the seating area of the driver as much as possible to allow more space to service the engine but still most part of the engine are being covered up. The driver and the radio operator would be very uncomfortable sitting in their position.

The speculative drawing also shows exhaust pipes at the rear of the chassis. This design is also flawed because as the engine is now seated in the middle, ducting will have to be constructed to channel the exhaust back to the rear passing the crew compartment. If the ducting were inside the compartment, any leakage will suffocate the crews inside.

1/144 German E-10 Jagdpanzer - CGD

1/144 German E-10 Jagdpanzer - CGD
with Crouching Ability and Optional Schürzen

The E-10 Jagdpanzer based upon the PzKpfw 38 (d) chassis, and designed to utilise a standardised platform for a family of armoured vehicles. The E-10 was meant to replace the successful 'Hetzer' Jagdpanzer itself based upon the earlier 38(t)

E-10 Entwicklung Series at: wiki info and Achtung Panzer

One special feature of the design of the E-10 was an auxiliary drive connected to the suspension to lower or raise the vehicle. The potential of this design was not practically realized until in 1950s with the introduction of the Swedish S-tank.

This 1/144 Panzer '46 German E-10 Jagdpanzer model contains 4 parts, a chassis, a detachable track system, and two Schürzen. To simulate the ability of the E-10's adjustable suspension, customer simply flip over the track system during assembly, to have the E-10 in travelling or crouching mode (which reduced the vehicle height).Glue is not required for the assembly of the track system and Schürzen.

1/144 SU-100 & SU-102 'Uralmesh' - CGD

1/144 SU-100 & SU-102 'Uralmesh' - CGD

Soviet Weaponry is often the poor relation in terms of 1/144, not only in aircraft but also armour. Even more so when presenting some of the more exotic or late planing items. The item presented here is more than just a paper panzer and was scheduled to enter full production, in which case it would been a tank killer with the job of hunting down those late ware German projects....

SU-101 / SU-192 - was an experimental vehicle designed by Uralmash design office in autumn 1944 to spring 1945 to replace the SU-100. Based on the T-44, it was special designed to deal with the ever increasing length of guns on vehicles to counter thick German armour, which make tank destroyers and self-propelled guns difficult to maneuver in cities. The tank had engine mounted sideways and in front, significantly shortened the overall length of the vehicle, which also provided additional protections for the crews.

The crew compartment was also had more room for additional ammunition. The SU-101 carried an 100-mm D-10 tank gun. The SU-102 carried an 122-mm D-25-44S tank gun. The crew compartment has less room compared to the SU-101 because of the bigger gun and ammunition. Although successfully passed factory tests with high performances, it was not mass produced as WWII came to an end. A surviving vehicle was displayed in Kubinka Armor Museum, Russia.

1/144 E-75 Berge Panzer (Limited) - CGD

1/144 E-75 Berge Panzer (Limited) - CGD

This E75 is modelled after the BergePanther, one of the best recovery vehicle, using the chassis of E75 standard tank. At the heart of the vehicle was a 40 ton winch of the BergePanther. On its own the vehicle could provide a 40 ton force to pull out bogged down medium tanks.

But using a simple block & tackle pulley system, the extraction force could be doubled to 80 ton, enough to pull out disabled heavy tanks. The first pulley of the block and tackle system was cleverly incorporated into the winch mechanism. Operator only required to attach a single pulley looping back the cable to the anchoring spade to complete the system.

CGD also provides and interesting option on this release, a limited edition cable pack to allow for various configurations:

Cable Pack (Limted Edition Option)
1
  Cable in travel mode
2
Cable in 80 ton extraction mode
3
Cable in 40 ton extraction mode
4

 Price: $17.90

38D - (Source: Panzer Tracts no. 20-2) In October 1944 German Panzerkommission decided to standardize future Panzer production to use only 3 types of chassis, the 38 (t), Panther and Tiger. Unfortunately the 38 (t) chassis was poorly suited for production by German industries and supply seriously fell short of the demand. A new leichter (light) chassis was redesigned for German production based on the 38 (t). The new chassis would be wider and mounting a new 220 hp Tatra diesel engine. The new chassis was named as 38 D, also known as Pz. 38 “Reich”.

Vehicles planned to utilize the chassis included:
1. Aufklaerer 38D mit 2cm im Drehturm (Reconnaissance vehicle with 20mm gun in turret);
2. Aufklaerer 38D mit 7.5cm L/48 ( (Reconnaissance vehicle with 75mmL/48 gun);
3. Panzerfahrzeug mit Granatwerfer (Armoured vehicle with 12cm mortar);
4. Halbgruppenfahrzeug (Armoured personnel carrier for half of an infantry section);
5. Kugelblitz 38D

The Aufklaerer 38D had a longer hull and track contact length. With a different gear ratio gear box, the Aufklaerer 38D was a faster vehicle than the regular 38 D although the engine remained the same

1/144 E-75 Entwicklung Series Panzer - CGD

1:144 CGD Wehrmacht '46 German E 75 standard tank with 105mm Kw. K. L/68 (Krupp)

75 standard tank - In 1945, the German war machine initiated a development program (Entwicklung, or E) aimed at categorizing the development of AFVs in 5, 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 ton weight brackets. The E 75 was designed to be between 75 to 100 ton and as a standard tank replacing the King Tiger and Jagdtiger. The tank was almost identical to the King Tiger in size but would be easier, cheaper and quicker to produce than the previous designs.

The E 75 shared a lot of components with the E 50 and has the same hull design and dimension. The E 50 has more space inside through using thinner rolled armour plate and hence lighter weight.

To handle the additional weight, the E 75 has an additional suspension unit with 2 more road wheels on each side. The E 75 used E 50's combat track as transport track and another wider track as combat track.

105mm Kw. K. L/68 - was initially proposed by Krupp for increasing the armourment of existing Panzers and Jagdpanzers. It was to be mount on "Tiger B" .
