This injection-moulded kit contains 36 parts and 6 clear parts (the cockpit canopy and the fuselage windows). A comprehensive instruction leaflet and a decal sheet are included.

Wessex Wessex HAS.1 'Early' re-release, new decals. The Westland Wessex was a general purpose duties helicopter produced by Westland Aircraft Ltd. and represented a British licence development of the Sikorsky S-58. The initial production version, the Wessex HAS.1, first flew in June 1958 and the type began to be operated by the Royal Navy three years later.

The Wessex was designed for ASW, search and strike and air/sea rescue roles, with crew of one to three according to role and up to 16 passengers in main cabin. It was powered by a Napier Gazelle turboshaft engine. The fuselage was a light-alloy semi-monocoque structure, with steel tube support structure for the main rotor gearbox. The main and tail rotor each had four blades made of light-alloy. The landing gear was of a non-retractable tailwheel type. The HAS.1 was capable of carrying two torpedoes or depth charges on fuselage external stores pylons and it was equipped with a dipping sonar. In an assault role the aircraft could carry rocket pods and two missiles mounted on fuselage sponsons above the undercarriage wheels. Auxiliary drop fuel tanks could also be carried on aft fuselage pylons.

Deliveries of HAS.1s began in April 1960 to No.700H Sq. IFTU. Ultimately, HAS.1 equipped seven front-line ASW units in Fleet carriers and Ship's Flights in County Class destroyers and four training squadrons. In 1967 the HAS.1s were replaced in the ASW role by the more sophisticated HAS.3 version. The last HAS.1 was retired from RN service in August 1979. In total, 140 Wessex HAS.1 were produced.

The Westland Wessex was a general purpose duties all-metal helicopter produced by Westland Aircraft Ltd. and represented a British licence development of the Sikorsky S-58.

The Wessex HU.5, basically similar to the previous variant, the HC.2, represented the last version for the Royal Navy. It was powered by twin R-R Gnome turboshaft engines, which provided enough power and added safety for carrying troops into action. It had a strengthened airframe which allowed pilots to fly more efficient low-level sorties. Heavier loads of up to 3,200 lb (1,453 kg) could also be underslung and formidable weapons carried. A pre-production aircraft of the HU.5 flew in May 1963 and a total of 100 helicopters were deliverered in the period 1963 ‒ 1967.

At the beginning the older Wessex Mk.1/3 style air intake was retained, but later after frequent FOD problems were encountered, a new fairing with upper inlet was installed.

The Wessex HU.5 was used for carrying soldiers from a carrier or helicopter landing assault ships, in SAR, communications, fire support, air ambulance, paratrooping and ferrying roles. It also acted in the Commando role, similar to that of the Wessex Commando Mk.1, while a weapons platform could be mounted on both sides above the undercarriage. A weapons platform could be mounted above the undercarriage and the helicopter could be armed with A/T missiles, rocket projectiles and forward firing machine guns.

The Wessex HU.5 was withdrawn from RN service in March 1988.

December 1946 an agreement was signed between Westland Aircraft and Sikorsky to allow a British version of the S-51 to be manufactured under licence in the United Kingdom. These would be powered by the 500 hp Alvis Leonides radial engine

The Dragonfly entered service with the Royal Navy in 1950 in the air-sea rescue role. A number were also used by the Royal Air Force for casualty evacuation. It was replaced in British service by the Westland Whirlwind, another derivative of a Sikorsky design, in the late 1950s.

Following on from the success of the AFV Club P40 series, further releases are on their way.

The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King is a twin-engine medium-sized amphibious rotorcraft. Many of the features on board the Sea King represented a considerable advancement over preceding helicopters. In addition to being fully amphibious and capable of operating under all weather conditions, it holds the distinction of being the first operational American helicopter to be able to simultaneously hunt and destroy submarines.[6] Its twin-turboshaft powerplant layout gave the SH-3 a higher payload and greater reliability than previous anti-submarine helicopters.[5] In the event of a single engine failing, the Sea King could continue flying on a single engine.

Several Sea Kings, operated by the United States Marine Corps's HMX-1 unit, are used as the official helicopters of the President of the United States, for which the call sign 'Marine One' would be used.

The Sea King has also proved to be popular on the export market with foreign military customers, and has also been sold to civil operators as well. As of 2015, many examples of the type remain in service in nations around the world. The Sea King has been built under license by Agusta in Italy, Mitsubishi in Japan, and by Westland in the United Kingdom as the Westland Sea King

The Wessex HU.5, basically similar to the HC.2, represented the last version for the Royal Navy. It was powered by twin R-R Gnome turboshaft engines, which provided enough power and added safety for carrying troops into action.

A pre-production aircraft flew in May 1963 and a total of 100 machines were deliverered between 1963 and 1967. The HU.5 was also used in SAR, communications, fire support, air ambulance, paratrooping and ferrying roles. Following distinguished service the type was eventually withdrawn from RN service in March 1988.

Wessex HU.5C was a designation for a small batch of aircraft deployed to No.84 Squadron at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, serving there in the period 1984-94.

A British licence development of the Sikorsky S-58, the Westland Wessex was a general purpose duties all-metal helicopter produced by Westland Aircraft Ltd.

The Wessex HC.2 was designed for battlefield tactical support, troop-carrying and casualty evacuation. Powered by twin Rolls-Royce Gnome turboshaft engines in a redesigned nose (compared to HAS.1/3), the pre-production prototype first flew in October 1962 and the type entered RAF service early in 1964.

In the period 1976-96 the Wessex was used in the SAR role under the designation HAR.2. Covering both day and night call-outs, they carried out invaluable work in air, sea and mountain rescue roles.

A total of 72 Wessex HC.2s were built by Westland, the last of which was delivered in July 1968. It provided a lengthy service, flying with units both in the UK and overseas, with the last machines withdrawn in January 2003.

The Wessex HAS.1, powered by a Napier Gazelle turboshaft engine, first flew in June 1958 and the type began performing anti-submarine duties three years later, operated by the Royal Navy. A more powerful version, the HAS.3, with improved avionics and a radome on the rear fuselage, was introduced in 1967. In total, 140 HAS.1 helicopters were built, while 45 HAS.3 machines existed (all but three were conversions from HAS.1s).

In 1963 the Royal Australian Navy acquired a total of 27 Wessex helicopters designated the HAS.31A, of which 23 were later upgraded to Mk.31B standard, similar to that of HAS.3.

The RN Wessex HAS.1 and HAS.3s continued in service until 1979 and 1983, respectively, while the RAN’s HAS.31Bs served in ASW, SAR, utility and ambulance role until the end of 1989.

While Kampflieger is known for his prodigious range of 1/144 WWI aircraft, and a few Luft 46 aircraft, he has taken to producing a number of more unusual WWII models (They look like scaled up versions of his 1/200 gaming pieces, in which case a rescaled Bristol F.11/37 could be fun!)

Westland Whirlwind ( A wheels down  props version would be nice) an interesting fighter sidelined by its more sucessful singe engined counterparts. (available here )

Martin Maryland (interesting and unique in 1/144), an curious service history designed for the US, sold to the French and used by the British and SAF in North Africa and Middle East.(available here)
