About the Design

The creators of the 2018 reboot of Irwin Allen's "Lost in Space" eschewed the kitschy ethos of the 1960s original and attempted to take a semi-serious approach to the process of interstellar colonization. Instead of a single family being sent off in a flying saucer, we were presented with hundreds of colonists aboard the massive​e starship Resolute, the Jupiter 2 being just one of its dozen-plus atmospheric-capable landing craft.

The re-imagined J2 contained echoes of the original 1960s "flying saucer," but seemed far more realistic (at least by 21st century standards), both inside and out. (Although that its front was wholly non-aerodynamic does raise of quizzical eyebrow.) Perhaps its most unusual features were the landing rocket assemblies that emerged from the sides of the ship, a clear nod to extendable stardrives on the even weirder J2 created for the 1998 feature film.

About the Design

The "War Rocket Ajax" was the ultimate weapon in the arsenal of Ming the Merciless, Emperor of the Planet Mongo, in the 1980 version of Alex Raymond's "Flash Gordon."

In fact, apparently the only battle rocket in Ming's arsenal (We never see another in the entire movie), the massive, Art Deco-styled battlewagon is eventually hijacked by the film's eponymous hero, who then proceeds to crash it into the Emperor's palace, skewering Ming with its needle nose in the process.

About the Design    
The Morrigan class is a small, light-weight ship designed by the MCRN Navy to serve as a torpedo or light destroyer/escort. Small enough to be carried in number aboard Donneger-class battleships, Morrigan-class ships are often equipped with stealth technology

Thirty-one meters long, these ships are armed with two Nariman Dynamics 40mm Point Defense Cannons (PDCs) and two torpedo bays. They lack a ventral PDC, which gives them a vulnerable "blind spot."

Morrigans normally carry a crew of eight, but can function with a skeleton crew of just three if required.

The years immediately following the tsunamic success of George Lucas' "Star Wars" (1977) saw dozens of low-budget sci-fi shoot-'em-ups rushed into neighbourhood multiplexes. One of the most successful of these "Me, Too!" space operas was Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980), starring Richard ("The Waltons") Thomas, George ("The A-Team") Peppard, Robert ("The Man from UNCLE") Vaughn,  Marta ("Lost in Space") Kristen and Sam ("Ben Casey") Jaffee. Reportedly ghost-directed by Corman itself, the film was an unapologetic knock-off of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 action classic "Seven Samurai" and its 1960 American adaptation, "The Magnificent 7," all set in a far-future outer space.

A new(ish) saucer in 1/144! For those of you into old Sci-Fi movies, UFO, or just fancy to lineup against your Anigrand Hanebau, Atlantis TR-2/Bernalillo or Area-51 from Pegasus this could be the thing for you!?

Polar Lights have issued a plastic injection kit of the C-57D from the old "Forbidden Planet" classic movie (which is arguably based on Shakespeare's play The tempest').  I don't think you get the "Robbie the Robot" in this kit :(

When someone says the words "science fiction" nothing comes to mind quicker than a flying saucer. The most famous flying saucer in history was the iconic vessel featured in Forbidden Planet, the C-57D. The ship is offered for the first time in a medium scale model kit. At 12" wide, it is a perfect size to fit on any book shelf. The ship can be built in a flying or in a landed position. The lower dome comes injected in clear plastic to show off the inner engine detail.

Interestingly, a search on YouTube reveals people have already customised their C-57Ds with automated legs, lighting systems and even a rotating engine ring!

The Mars Gravity Probe 1 (MGP-1) was the ill-fated manned interplanetary spacecraft that brought American astronauts Cmdr. Christopher "Kit" Draper (Paul Mantee) and Col. Dan McReady (Adam West) to the Red Planet in the 1964 sci-fi classic "Robinson Crusoe on Mars."

MGP-1 was an important step in cinematic spacecraft design as it was one of the first to incorporate design elements from actual NASA spacecraft then under development. Aoshima are to re-issue their classic kit of Thunderbird 1 (original version), its quite a bird at @260mm.
It can be build legs up or down, and the wings are movable to provide the variable geometry, the various build threads indicate that the panel lines and detailing is nice and fine and in proportion. Interestingly, a number of different versions of the TB1 were used in the original Gerry Anderson productions ranging from a Shiny TB1 in Series 1, to the more dull matt version used subsequently. In addition, there were differences in the the actual detailing of the design, it is widely held that the Aoshima takes the best bits of all of those design to make this the most interesting to build and display whilst retaining the look and feel of the originals.

Hasegawa remembers 1/144 exists and produces 'Ultra Seven' Sci-Fi Kit.
Not really a Wonderfest item, however it was only released 2010/Feb/01.
