The Hawker Siddeley Harrier “Jump Jetˮ is a British V/STOL aeroplane developed in the 1960s. The initial version, the Harrier GR.1, was based on the pre-production P.1127 (RAF) fighter, of which a batch of 60 was ordered for the RAF in 1967. A similar model – designated Mk.50, with simplified navigational/attack system, was exported to the United States as the AV-8A, for use by the Marine Corps and a total of 102 aircraft were delivered during the early 1970s. Some 60 aircraft were upgraded as the AV-8Cs by mid 1980s.

The Harrier GR.1/AV-8 was a single-seat fixed-wing all-metal monoplane powered by a R-R Pegasus turbojet (US designation F402), used for ground-attack, close air support, reconnaissance and fighter roles. It was fitted with two air intakes and four vectoring nozzles for directing the thrust generated by the engine. It had a tandem undercarriage and two outrigger landing gear units. External store hard points were installed for carrying a variety of weapons and external fuel tanks: two under each wing and one under the fuselage, while two Aden cannon gun pods could also be fitted beneath the fuselage.

The Harrier was a very innovative aeroplane and the only truly successful V/STOL design of the many that arose during that period of time and it became the versatile warrior of the RAF.

In September 2017, Lockheed-Martin revealed its ambitious plans to send humans to Mars in the third decade of the 21st century. Part of this "Mars Base Camps" (MBC) project was a Single-Stage-To-Orbit (SSTO) descent/ascent vehicle that would take astronauts from the mother ship down to the Martian surface, then return them to the orbiting spacecraft.

Unlike competing Mars lander designs, this was a single-stage, highly aerodynamic vehicle that would use supersonic retroproplusion (similar to the SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket) to fly through the thin Martian atmosphere and then land vertically on the Red Planet's surface. At the conclusion of the scientific mission, the entire craft would return to orbit intact, leaving nothing behind.

Lockheed-Martin's plans called for two landers to be included on each Earth-to-Mars mission.

The Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is an unmanned (UAV) surveillance aircraft. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical (now part of Northrop Grumman), and known as Tier II+ during development. The Global Hawk performs a similar role as the Lockheed U-2. The RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas. It can survey as much as 40,000 square miles (100,000 km2) of terrain a day.

This a 1/144 complete resin kit of the projected DARPA Space Cruiser, a proposed deniable weapon developed from the 1970s Early Spring project. Designed to be carried inside the Space Shuttle bay (up to three at a time), this small manned craft would inspect and destroy Soviet spy or weapon satellites that posed a threat to the USA. This kit is very small, measuring less than 6cm, consisting of just five parts. Suggested paint finish is overall black with a gold canopy, no decals (its deniable, so don't put stars and bars on it!). Limited availability.

I'm not sure as to the differences between the C and the R varients would easil allow for a Gary Powers craft?

Despite its advancing age, the U-2 “Dragon Lady” continues to fly high-altitude all-weather reconnaissance missions for the US Air Force (USAF) even today. Built by Lockheed, the U-2 is powered by a single engine, and its high-aspect-ratio wings and light construction resemble that of a glider. While its particular platform is required by the high altitudes at which the aircraft flies, this also makes it very difficult to operate. Indeed, the U-2 has to be flown at near maximum speed to avert stalling. Landing is a particularly hazardous undertaking as it uses bicycle-type landing gear and titanium skids on its wingtips. It can fly at altitudes of 21,000m, requiring the pilot to wear the equivalent of a spacesuit.

The U-2R (initially known as the TR-1A) is a modified U-2C featuring larger under-wing “superpods” and increased fuel capacity. The type first flew in 1967, and the final example was delivered to the USAF in October 1989. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney J75 turbojet engine, and a total of twelve U-2R Dragon Ladies were built. Various surveillance and intelligence-gathering sensors are carried onboard.

This specific variant of the Dragon Lady is the subject of Warbirds’ new 1/144 scale die-cast model. It’s exciting as it’s a brand new design made from completely new toolings. The long, slim fuselage and outspread wings are accurately reproduced. Panel lines are finely engraved on it. With a wingspan of more than 210mm in this scale, this is a truly impressive model. To enable it to be presented to best advantage, it comes with a sleek metal display stand. This high-altitude recon aircraft is rarely seen, but collectors can now get their very own U-2R at desktop level!

As part of the Warbirds collection, Dragon has produced a 1/144 scale model of the X-29. This item makes use of 100% new toolings, and it accurately reproduces the sleek shape of the experimental aircraft.

It is a shame that his is a prebuilt model and not a kit as per the recent X-1 and X-3, although the X-1 has been issued in both kit and built formats so there is a possibility.

As part of the USA’s experimental flight program, the X-29 first took to the air from Edwards Air Force Base on 14 December 1984. A total of two aircraft, based on Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter airframes, were produced and they flew in various tests up till 1991. The Grumman X-29’s key characteristics were forward-swept wings (at more than 33° angle), canard control surfaces and composite materials. The design was inherently unstable to increase its agility, so it utilized computerized fly-by-wire controls that could make 40 corrections per second while flying at a maximum speed of Mach 1.8.
