Hi Anonymous,
Having a look at the Klein design version I think that it is obvious that they are NOT the same. The KD turret has nicer detail and finer resolution let alone the Brass barrels!
Look at the side of the turret and you will see 2 different slopes to it whereas CGD design only has one with 4 large 'bolts'. there are many other differences too.
For the cost the CGD is a great item especially if you want a few but the KD one is much better for intricate detail.

They are inspired by the same subject, so should look similar?

its not a copy, if you compare the design detail as PBH has said they are not alike.

Also, the method by which the gun mantle sits within the turret is completely different

I picked up a Deko-Boko Dou version of the Coelian conversion from Starjet some time back. From the appearance, it is more like the Klein unit as it possesses brass barrels.

If I can find a spare Panther, it may get done this Xmas. Does anyone know whether it was based on the Ausf A, Ausf D or Ausf G variant?

It never made it beyond the drawing board so I would guess you could use any Panther hull.

Thanks for the info, guys. There is apparently a conversion for the Tamiya 1/48 Panther, which is an Ausf G. Dragon have a 1/35 kit of the Coelian which I understand has a hybridised version of the hull, sharing components from both A and D, so go figure!

Anyway, I'll go with either the WTM Ausf D or G, whichever one I find I have spare.
