Great repaint but what do you use to strip the paint from the original model? I've tried removing the paint from F-Toys and Cafe Reo/J Wings models but nothing I use seems to touch the paint they use.
F-toys paint is almost impossible to strip.... Cafereo/j-wings,Big birds,Takara FAOW is easy..just put the toy in Alcohol..and let some minutes or hours... and the paint melt..so you can with a old T-shirt wipe the paint.. some colours(diferent paints) take more time or more effort..
I don´t known..I used Rubbing alcohol or ethanol... is cheap and easy to find here...maybe is easier pick a painted area of sprue (the sprue were the small parts like landing gears came and test ... put on a jar with alcohol ,close and let the alcohol melt the paint...) it works on Gunze paints..too..
Yes, isopropyl is used in eletronics .. but if you use that old Tupperware ...you can put the toys, let one night..and after you remove the paint you can reuse the same alcohol again ..and again..
Have you tried medical or sports medicine stores? Maybe it's different in the rest of the world, but you can pickup rubbing alcohol (70% to 120%) at every supermarket, grocery store, shopping centers such as Walmart or Target in the US. Even 24 hour stores like 7-11 carry ispropyl very cheap.
By the way, I tried both 70% & 120% rubbing alcohol and it didn't remove anything off of an F4S Jwings, even after I soaked it for 48 hours. I tried brake fluid next, and I got good results within 3-4 hours. You need to wear gloves and thoroughly clean the kits after soaking, however. I soaked a kit over 48 hours in brake flud, but that made the styrene brittle and caused cracks in the wings (easily glued back together).
Gunze Mr. Paint Remover worked the best and it removed paint instantly without deforming the plastic, but it costs 1000yen for 110mL. Isopropyl costs $4USD for 1200mL and brake fluid is about $6USD for 1400mL. Basically half the price for 10 times the amount.
Don't try acetone or any methyl ethyl ketones. They remove the paint instantly, but then either warp the plastic or downright melt it into a useless plastic goo ball. If you're trying to simulate battle battle damaged, it might be worth a try. I had fun with a few cheap kits I picked up from ebay.
Neither Gunze nor Tamiya's acrylic thinners removed the paint. I didn't try soaking them since I din't want to waste any thinner on paint removal experimentation. It's worth a try, if money is no object, which in my case it is!
With all the great releases, I'm in hoarding mode currently and will get to painting sooner or later.

Will ordinary Meths (the purple stained methylated spirit) do the trick?

and for a start its more greasy and stick to high h heaven
the isopropyl shoudl do the tick beter its lighter and clears quicker. addtioanly it removes most paint - use a a cloth or the cotton wool pads!?
yes ethanol and isopropyl works fine(isopropyl is more expensive here)....
Isopropyl is hard to find locally. Even the local chemists look puzzled (one suggested I try the local off licence ie liquor store!!)
Electronics supply shops have tiny squeeze bottles but not enough and way to expensive.
When I lived in the US it was easy to find and cheap.

50% Isopropyl is easy to get down here but I found it completely useless. Oven cleaner is no good on ABS kits as it etches and breaks up the plastic.
